Find the exact time between a start and end time. Results include hours and minutes, decimal hours, total minutes, and total seconds — and overnight spans are handled correctly.
Time duration is the end time minus the start time. Both times are converted to seconds, subtracted, and formatted back into hours and minutes. When the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator adds 24 hours so overnight spans are measured correctly.
From 9:15 AM to 5:45 PM is 8 hours 30 minutes — equal to 8.5 decimal hours, 510 minutes, or 30,600 seconds. Every duration result shows all of these formats so you can use whichever your task needs.
Leave “Cross midnight” enabled for overnight work or events. From 11:00 PM to 2:30 AM measures as 3 hours 30 minutes. Switch to “Same day only” if you want the calculator to flag reversed times as an error instead.
Need decimal hours specifically? The Hours Calculator focuses on that. For shifts with breaks, use the Time Card Calculator.
